BACK TO THE FUTURE Minicamp

Come to the winter local minicamp hosted by the Columbus chapter.

WHEN

WHEWe will start on Friday, January 14 at 8:00pm and wrap things up on Sunday, January 16 after breakfast and clean-up.

COST

The cost will be $50.00. This inclues snack Friday night, 3 meals Saturday and breakfast on Sunday, as well as 2 nights of lodging and an awesome t-shirt!

Columbus CISV Junior Branch Cookie-A-Thon

Our goal is to make 50 dozen cookies for local shelters.

When:

Friday, Dec 17 @ 7:30 pm – 10:00am (the next day)

Yes it is an overnight event! There will be games and movies as well as lots of baking!

For people unable to spend the night, they can be picked up at 11:00pm!

What To Bring:

$3 to help cover the cost of baking supplies

We would like the Jbers to get donations for our event. Attached is a donation form. Remind people that their donations are tax deductible. Donations will go towards subsidizing travel costs for the National Youth Meeting in San Francisco in May 2011.

Every Memorial Day weekend, JB USA hosts the (now) famous “National Youth Meeting,” bringing together JBers from across the nation to participate in fun, educational activities that celebrate the CISV philosophy and provide an opportunity for youth to learn, grow, have fun, and build friendships. The program is open to all JBers, ages 11-25, throughout the country.

An email was sent that included the Precamp containing more information about registration. Our very own JB president Emma was on the planning committee for this. IT will be an incredible weekend!!!

Cookie-a-thon Wrap up

Our first COOKIE-A-THON was a huge success. The JB board worked really hard to make it a fun evening. Our goal was to bake 50 dozen cookies. We can really close by making 46 dozen. The cookies were donated to a Neighborhood Services, a United Way organization that serves low income people in the University District of Columbus. The fun part was to see how clueless most of the boys were with making cookies...

Relay For Life

Team CISV will be participating in the RELAY FOR LIFE through the American Cancer Society. The relay lasts Friday, June 6 starting at 5:oo PM through Saturday, June 7 ending at noon.

This will take place on the Bexley High School track. If you are interested in walking a shift or two during this time period, please register as a Team CISV member. Our goal is to raise $1200.

Interchange w/ Sweden!!

Hey JBers!!!!

Our chapter is participating in an Interchange with Sweden this summer!!! Delegates must be 14 or 15 years old by Summer 2008 (between June 1st and August 31st).

If you want more information about the Interchange program, click here.

You can travel to Sweden from June 23rd until July 10th and then we will host the Swedish delegation from July 15th until August 1st. If you have any questions feel free to give me a call Barb at 235-7199.

POSTERS & PIZZA!!!!!!

At this event, we will design display boards about all the Villages, Interchanges, & Seminar Camps our JB members have attended. These display boards will be seen by HUNDREDS of people as they walk past our booth at the International Festival. Hopefully it will catch their eye, and they will stop to ask about joining CISV!

So, on Sunday, October 28 bring things that you'd like to add to these displays:

* pictures (copies of pictures are preferred)
* scrapbooks
* items you traded
* gifts from other countries

There will be pizza & drinks there. Even if you have not traveled with CISV, you are welcome to come hang out. Did I mention that there will be FREE PIZZA!!!!!

Magic Mountain Recap

The winner of the "bring a friend" contest is Grayson Curtis!!!! She is the winner of the gift card to her favorite eatery because she brought three guests with her. Congrats Grayson!!

Thanks to everyone who came to Magic Mountain! We had 23 JBers attend--this was a great turn out! I think it was a blast to hang out and play some games. Here are a few highlights of the afternoon:

* Ben caused a traffic jam on the go karts.
* Alex and his brother Ryan taking over the "Deal of No Deal" video game.
* Evan and Gina's (our JB Prez & VP) new nicknames: Vulture & Badger
* Jimmy (Tommy K's friend) losing his hat on the go karts and having it run over multiple times.
* The epic CISV laser tag battle!

Our delegation just returned from Norway. The "Middle Ages Village" was a success, and we were all very sad to leave. Here are a few pictures from our experience.

We have just finished the first week of the "Middle Ages Village" in Tønsberg, Norway. Tønsberg is the oldest city in Norway, so there is lots of history behind this beautiful town. Our delegation has adjusted to the daily routine rather well. The delegations are great, and the leaders are a lot of fun. The weather has been on/off. One day it rains, the next day it is bright and sunny. Today, thankfully, we spent most of the day playing running games outside. The kids had a blast!

Today, we did an activity where each delegation drew a map of the world. It was fascinating to see how each country views the world. Geographically speaking, many countries put their country in the middle of the map. The national night presentations are also very interesting. We presented our national night last week, and it was a success. We have seen national nights from Finland, Norway, Ecuador and Mexico.

The Village is such a special place! I'm so glad that I am able to be a part of it again.

A Message from Portugal!!!

Olá,

We were very fortunate that all of our flights left and arrived on time. When we reached Lisbon, our baggage came very quickly. We were then met by the Portugal CISV group who had three large banners saying, ªWelcome!ª and ªHello CISV.ª We were very surprised. From there we quickly went to stay with our own families who did not let us sleep until that night to cure us from the jet lag. This proved to be very helpful. Sunday afternoon we went to Francisca's house for the welcome party where we had bread and cheese, soup, rice with duck (identified to us by the adults saying "quack, quack," salad, and tasty desserts including lovely pastries and a dessert that tasted like a mixture of brownies and icecream. Francisca's home is beautiful and below some mountains. We ended the evening by swimming in their pool. Tuesday we get together as a group again to visit the town of Sintra where we will see a castle.
